Whenever I bring up a music festival I’m planning on going to someone always says to me “Why are you spending so much money and time on a festival when you can go to a cheaper concert?” I agree that festivals seem outrageous in the sense that they are more expensive than concerts, more exhausting than concerts and more of an all-around effort to attend. I personally enjoy music festivals way more than concerts for many reasons. In this blog ill be talking about the pros and cons of concerts and music festivals.
Concerts
Pros:
- shorter (time wise)
- usually, last around 2-3 hours
- cheaper
- only have to buy one outfit
- one ticket to one artist is usually less than or around $100
- you only have to pay for one uber, there and back
- you can buy a meal at a restaurant near the venue
- convenient
- typically close in proximity
- When an artist goes on tour they go to many locations, sometimes multiple in the same city, this makes it easier to attend closer to home.
Cons:
- Your only seeing one or two artists
- You see the artist you came to see and their opener.
- Less planning
- Since concerts aren’t as much of a hassle as music festivals you can choose to go last minute.
Music Festivals
Pros:
- Multiple artists
- At festivals, you have many options on who you want to spend your time seeing.
- An experience
- Music festivals take a lot of planning, from where you’re going to stay to who you are going with, this makes your time at the music festival more meaningful and rewarding.
- It’s a vacation
- Music Festivals usually take place somewhere far away, so you are technically getting to experience another town or city as well.
- Crowd
- People who attend music festival spend a lot of time, effort, and money being there so everyone is a lot happier than at a music festival.
Cons:
- Expensive
- Music festival tickets can cost around $300 or more, this does not include the price of food, housing, and transportation.
- Since you spend a lot of time at the festival you usually have to buy food at the venue, which can cost more than $15 per meal.
- Location
- You can travel extremely far depending on where you live, sometimes you need to drive a long distance, shuttle, or fly.
- Time
- Festivals are usually 2-3 days and all day. This can be extremely time consuming and tiring.
